Measured Building Survey using Laser Scanning Technology
Laser Scanning Measured Building Survey

In August 2024, Landtech Surveys was tasked with conducting a comprehensive topographical and measured building survey at the Youth Hostel Association (YHA) Hathersage, a popular destination nestled in the scenic Derbyshire Peak District.

The Challenge

The YHA Hathersage property presented a unique set of challenges for the survey team. Firstly the site is pretty much in constant use and as such the team was given a small window to complete the survey. Additionally, the building itself is a historic structure, requiring careful consideration to preserve its integrity during the survey process.

The Solution

Landtech Surveys leveraged its expertise in topographical and measured building surveys to overcome these challenges and deliver accurate, detailed data.

Topographical Survey

The topographical survey involved:

  • Data Collection: Using state-of-the-art surveying equipment, including laser scanning and GPS units, the team collected precise measurements of the site's topography.

  • Data Processing: The collected data was processed using advanced software to create a detailed topographic map and digital terrain models (DTMs).

  • Feature Identification: The survey identified key features such as buildings, roads, vegetation, boundaries and services.

Measured Building Survey

The building survey focused on:

  • Exterior Measurements: Accurate measurements were taken of the building's exterior dimensions, including height, length, and width.

  • Interior Measurements: The team surveyed the interior of the building, capturing details such as room sizes, window and door locations, and existing features.

  • As-Built Drawings: Detailed as-built drawings were created to provide a comprehensive record of the building's existing condition.

The Results

The topographical and measured building surveys conducted by Landtech Surveys provided YHA Hathersage with a valuable asset. The detailed data will be used for:

  • Planning and Development: The surveys will inform future planning and development projects, ensuring that any new structures or renovations are compatible with the existing site and building.

  • Asset Management: The data will assist in managing the property's assets effectively, including maintenance, repairs, and insurance.

  • Compliance: The surveys can help ensure compliance with various regulations and standards.

Landtech Surveys' expertise and commitment to precision played a vital role in successfully completing these surveys at YHA Hathersage. The accurate data provided will benefit the organization for years to come.
